Fellow Comrades this is the 1st in a series of articles concerning "OLD GLORY" and proper displaying and flying of our National Colors. According to a publication of the Veterans Day National Committee the law is remembered for giving life to "OLD GLORY" because it contains the provisions that "The Flag represents a loving country and is itself a living thing." Therefore it is important to remember that the flag should be flown with respect. It is a universal custom that the flag is flown from sunrise to sunset and should not be flown during inclement weather unless an all weather (storm) flag is used. The flag also should not be flown at night unless it is properly illuminated during hours of darkness. Proper illumination means that the flag should have enough light directed on it to be seen by a casual passerby. George Townsend Flag Chairman |
